Keeping an eye on the beach bar Painkiller consumption
Another little snippet from recent travels, and something of a sign of the times.
This is the sign above the famous Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke, BVI. It’s the perfect laid back beach bar on paradise island – though you are being watched!
The Soggy Dollar Bar is so called because it’s how the yachtsmen who visited traditionally paid for their drinks after swimming ashore from the anchorage in White Bay.
Inflation being what it is, we swam ashore with a soggy $20 for our round of their famous Painkillers, a mixture of dark rum, orange and pineapple juice, coconut cream and freshly grated nutmeg.
After which you can test your hand-eye co-ordination by playing the game of trying to get a ring at the end of a long piece of string to swing on to a hook attached to a palm tree.
No? It all makes sense when you’ve had a few drinks. Apparently.
