Cats in the Cup, here’s a taster of what we might be looking at next year
For all the debate as to whether catamarans will really be suitable for the next Americas Cup, there are precious few who have any real experience on which to draw. Among those who have the most relevant experience are the Extreme 40 sailors who regularly find themselves travelling at high speed in close quarters. Some have even tried match racing the 40 footers.
Here’s a short clip of just that.
In particular, watch the dial up and imagine how much more nimble a 45ft version with a wing mast might be.
The first of the new AC45 class will be launched at the end of the year in New Zealand. I’m not sure anybody really knows what’s in store for the next America’s Cup and that’s a large part of the appeal.
