Russian designer Vlad Murnikovs view of the future makes for some interesting renderings
Remember Fazisi in the 1989-90 Whitbread Race? Remember the MX-Ray dinghy that followed?
According to Murnikov, ‘Over the years more that a half-dozen designs from various manufacturers followed in her wake, and today practically every dinghy producer has a similar boat in their line-up.’
You may or may not agree with his view and you may question whether Fazisi succeeded inspiring a new generation of offshore racing machines, but I suggest what doesn’t need debating is whether his futuristic renderings for a monohull that he claims will be capable of 50+ knots look exciting.
Hydrostatics aside, could such radical shapes be the basis of performance yachts of the future?
