Pocket Battleship still retains a narrow lead over Charlie Fish at the 707 Hamble Winter Series
The Hunter 707 fleet at this weekend’s third Tyco Healthcare Hamble Winter series was greeted with unseasonably warm south-westerlies.
In race one the fleet got away at the second attempt with an individual recall. Charlie Fish was first round the windward mark, closely pursued by a group including Giraffe, Swallow and Censored. Places didn’t change too much on the water, however, once the question of who was over the line was answered, the final places were Charlie Fish, Giraffe, Pocket Battleship and Sword.
The second race sailed in an increasing breeze was three laps of the same course and the fleet got away first time. Doh! went hard left and taking advantage of a significant lift on port came to the windward mark first with Royal Thames second and Surfeit third.
Royal Thames showed great speed downwind to lead going into the next beat infront of Censored and Doh! However, Giraffe went hard left and held a significant lead at the windward mark, followed by Censored and Charlie Fish.
At the finish, Giraffe were first, from Censored, who were carrying a yellow which dropped them to fourth. Subsequently Charlie Fish took second and Doh! third.
Overall, Pocket Battleship still lead from Charlie Fish who are now only two points behind. In third is The Sweeney with Royal Thames in fourth, and with a first and second Giraffe have moved up to fifth.
