San Francisco's Board of Supervisors gives AC34 the go ahead. Now it's up to BMW Oracle Racing/GGYC to decide
San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors passed the recommendation for the Hosting of the 34th America’s Cup unanimously – 11-0
The revised plan, which was claimed by City officials to have been re-negotiated with BMW Oracle Racing, is for the so-called Northern Alternative, involving a set of Piers and infrastructure more to the north of the City.
Supervisor Chris Daly, who denounced the early version of the deal, voted yes after analyses showed the revised proposal could be a long-term moneymaker for the city.
But a team official said last week that the city’s proposal didn’t stack up financially. It is unclear whether the revised current bid, which hoped to minimize the city’s costs, will get the nod from BMW Oracle Racing and the Golden Gate Yacht Club.
A decision on the 34th America’s Cup venue is scheduled to be announced by 31 December 2010. For more, visit www.americascup.com
