Peter Harrison's Sojana smashes the Round Antigua record in champagne conditions during day 2 of Sailing Week
Peter Harrison clinched the Yachting World Trophy for the Round the Island race in style today. By smoking around the 44mile course in 4 hours 37mins and 43s, Harrison’s Farr superyacht Sojana has sliced nearly half an hour off the record set four yeas ago by Tom Hill’s Reichel Pugh 75 Titan XII. Trying to cling to their coattails, Yachting World was onboard Lee Overlay Partners (pictured), the Cookson 50 that was previously called Chieftan under Ger O’Rourke’s ownership. But despite an exhilarating 18 knot downhill sleighride, we came in third (YW diplomacy in mind!), 25mins behind second placed TP52 Rio.
Truly spectacular sailing conditions for all classes, today (Sunday 26th) once again saw sunny 20-25knots all day, equating to lots of happy sunburnt faces. The majority of the boats are in Division B for the cruisers and performance cruiser classes, and raced halfway around the island today, stopping overnight in Dickenson Bay for the Fort James Beach Bash – where crews will get their chance to flash the willow against some true cricket legends including Richie Richardson, Curtley Ambrose, Ridley Jacobs and Kenny Benjamin in the Celebrity Cricket 6-a-side match.
