Ellen MacArthur received her Damehood from HRH The Queen on Wednesday morning
This morning Ellen received her Damehood from the HRH Queen, Ellen was joined by others including, Private Johnson Beharry, from The Princess of Wale’s regiment, who was decorated with the Victoria Cross for his bravery during the war in Iraq.
Ellen received the Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her record-breaking, solo circumnavigation this winter. At just 28, Ellen is the youngest person ever to received the award.
Ellen said, ‘It was a very special occasion and bought back memories of receiving my MBE after the Vendée Globe in 2001 – a lot has happened since that time which has culminated in receiving this honour today. And although it was just me attending the investiture, I am definitely here on behalf of all my team who deserve to be recognised just as much as me for all their effort in achieving the new world record.’
