Skip and Zoë Atkins were presented with the Laser 2000 Crewsaver Millennium Series Trophy at last weekend's dinghy show at Alexandra Palace
Skip and Zoë Atkins were presented with the Laser 2000 Crewsaver Millennium Series Trophy by Guy Page UK Sales Manager for Crewsaver at Alexandra Palace on Sunday 7 March.
The series was held at seven different venues around the country each last season and 64 boats took part in conditions varying from zero winds at Loch Venachar and Weir Wood to ‘boat busting’ conditions at Langstone. Event six at Loch Venchar was lost as a series event due to no wind on either day.
Although winning for a third consecutive year there are now many other crews chasing Atkins for the title. Despite winning the Millennium Series Atkins has still to win the national title which is currently held by Make Hart winning against a 59-boat fleet.
Trevor and Caroline Bradley finished second overall in the Millennium Series and, although scoring equal points at the Coastal Championship, were beaten to second place at this event by John and Pauline Cox.
This season looks set to be another good one for the Laser 2000s with even larger turnouts and more venues added to the calendar. Events this year includ a three-day Bank Holiday event at Bala, a week-long nationals at Saundersfoot and the inlands at Rutland laster in the year. Check out www.laser2000.org.uk for more details.
