Velux 5-Oceans Race competitor Unai Basurko is just 80 miles from Leg 2 finish 23/3/07
Unai Basurko who’s currently lying in third place in the Velux 5-Oceans Race is now less than 80 miles from the second leg finish line in Norfolk, Virginia. If the wind swings and builds to 15-20 kts as expected the Basque skipper should enter the mouth of Cheasapeake Bay and cross the finish line at 1600 today. The estimated time of arrival at Waterside Marina is 2000.
Talking about the condition of his boat after such a long, gruelling leg Basurko says it’s in good shape but everything will need to be checked during the three and a half week stopover in Norfolk. “Nothing is broken. The sails are very tired, but this is not a problem. We have time we didn’t have in Australia to fix things, but here we do and all the team is there, so I think I will have a good holiday – I need it!”
The final leg, the sprint across the North Atlantic back to Bilbao, starts on 15 April.
