Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club is hosting the Volvo RYA Zone Championships on 23-24 June
Young Scottish sailors will be competing at the Volvo RYA Zone Championships at Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club on the 23-24 June 2001. Following the success of the Volvo RYA Nationals which were held at nearby Largs Sailing Club, the 2001 Scottish Zone Championships promises to be even more exciting with more entries and classes than ever before.
The aim of the championships is to give young windsurfers and dinghy sailors the opportunity to compete in a professional managed and high level competition without the need to travel long distances.
Jane Scott who’s the RYA development officer for Scotland is looking forward to a memorable weekend: “The event will be a great opportunity for all junior and youth sailors to get some excellent racing experience. A big thank you to the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club, and Helensburgh Sailing Club for putting tremendous effort into organising the Volvo RYA Zone Championship.
Murray Glasgow North, the local Volvo Dealership, is also supporting the event. “We are pleased to be involved with this exciting regatta, and look forward to watching some future sailing stars out on the water.” said Fraser Murphy of Murray Glasgow North.
This year’s Volvo RYA Zone Championships will form an integral part of the ‘1 Million Sport England funded, Volvo RYA Youth Sailing Initiative. Talent Scouts will be on the look out to identify young (under 18 year old) sailors with natural ability and potential for a place in the National Junior Squad.
