At last night’s prizegiving event at the Royal Thames Yacht Club in London the team from Law firm Allen & Overy LLP Canary Wharf office collected their prizes for winning the BMW City Challenge.
Julia Bailey (pictured far right) together with her four-strong crew including her husband Graham, Kevin Young, Kirstin Heslop and Dylan Potter were not only presented with the fine silver BMW City Challenge trophy and keeper prizes but received details of their VIP trip to Valencia next summer to watch the America’s Cup yacht BMW Oracle Racing in action.
Team Allen & Overy LLP clinched the title after a nail-biting final held in the Royal Victoria Dock last week finishing just two points ahead of NIR Capital and five points ahead of Cornwallis Elt who finished in third place.
Commenting on her win Julia Bailey said: ” It was a really exciting finish and we’re absolutely thrilled to be going to Valencia to watch the BMW Oracle professionals in action. It’s been a terrific event and a fantastic team building exercise for us, combining competitive but friendly racing with like-minded sailing enthusiasts.”
The series which began in April and took place at Royal Victoria Dock attracted a total of 22 teams from 17 city firms – totaling 150 crewmembers. The event was organised by the Royal Thames Yacht Club and managed by Berkeley Marine who made sure the fleet of eight Beneteau First Class 8s were kept in tip top conditions throughout the series.
Details of next year’s BMW City Challenge including dates and entry forms will shortly be available on line at www.berkeleymarine.co.uk.
