Bribon made their best start to an Audi MedCup Circuit regatta since the start of the season, when they won the first race of the Region of Murcia Trophy Regatta and followed up with a third to take an early two point advantage over the ever consistent circuit leaders Quantum Racing.

The waters off Cartagena, a new venue for the MedCup Circuit, have already dealt a new set of challenges for the crews and the regatta organisers. The deep waters shelve sharply to the shore and the adjacent steep mountainsides swirl the breezes, but there were plenty of chances to use these wind shifts and big waves.

Yesterday saw a perfect blue sky with 15-20 knots of wind. Two races were held – the committee attempted a third, but they could not get their anchor to hold in the 90 meter water with the then rough sea.

While series leaders Quantum Racing relinquished their early lead when they fouled their spinnaker sheet on the first hoist, Bribon’s tactics carried them first over the finish line.

In the first race, Bribon went the correct way on the first run and second windward leg to go from eighth position to first. Quantum Racing relinquished an early lead by fouling their spinnaker sheet on the first hoist. In the second race, Quantum got to the first mark first followed by Platoon, Bribon, Desafio Espanol and Mutua Madrilena. All boats held these same positions around the four legged course.

Three races are scheduled for today, with more breeze forecast.
