The final day’s racing at the BUSA Student Yachting Nationals took place yesterday (28 March)
The third and last day of the BUSA Student Yachting National Championship yesterday (28 March) saw hazy sunshine and 25 knots of south-easterly breeze with occasional gusts of up to 30 knots, which blew consistently throughout the day.
With three to five feet of swell, the long offshore race proved to be exciting for all competitors, all working hard to finish the 26-mile race.
The race began with dolphins greeting the spectators at the breakwater, followed by a hotly contested start with two recalls. Plymouth Boathow.com were OCS but following their restart, flew through the fleet to be in the top five on the first leg but the overall winner was Cambridge University followed by Strathclyde and Southampton.

2nd Southampton Institute 2, Michael Henning (Skipper) – 27 pts
3rd Strathclyde University, Ruairidh Scott (Skipper) – 33 pts
