Sir Francis Chichester, solo round the world yachtsman, will be celebrated on a Royal Mail stamp issued on 29 April.

This 47p stamp is one of the Extreme Endeavours series which includes other great explores such as aviator Amy Johnson (2nd Class), the 1953 Everest Team (1st Class), Middle Eastern explorer Dame Freya Stark (European rate), and Antarctic explorers Sir Ernest Shackleton (42p) and Robert Falcon Scott (68p).

The stamps mark the 50th anniversary of the conquest of Everest on May 29 1953 and will be available from Post Office branches, wwwroyalmail.com or by telephone from 08457 641 641 (UK) or 44(0) 131 316 7483.
