The combined sailing clubs of West Mersea, Essex are hosting the HR Owen-sponsored Laser SB3 national championship next week (9-12 September).

Possibly the largest sportsboat regatta in the UK this year, around 40 of the three man boats are expected including entries from defending champion Jeremy Hill and Cowes Week class winner Glenn Bourke.

It’s the second year running that West Mersea has been the chosen location of a sportsboat fleet for their national championship, proving the suitability of the River Blackwater for such fast and furious racing and the popularity of the Island’s sailing clubs as hosts.

Once again HR Owen, one of the UK’s largest automotive retailers, has stepped forward as the main sponsor.
