Jonny Malbon's and Dee Caffari's Open 60s are are limping home with sail damage
Two more Open 60s have retired from the Rolex Fastnet Race with sail damage.
Jonny Malbon and Graham Tourell reported a ripped mainsail south-west of Plymouth at 0100 last night and decided to turn round and head back to the Solent. This morning, Dee Caffari reported that she had a torn mainsail below the first reef and was not able to make full speed in 10 knots of wind at Land’s End.
She is concerned about not now being able to make the Fastnet Rock before the next big blow and decided it was not prudent to continue. Aviva is returning to Portsmouth.
