Home sailors take top prizes at Firefly Craftinsure Vines Trophy at West Kirby 31/8/06
A total of 17 Fireflies travelled to West Kirby Sailing Club over the August Bank Holiday for Event 4 of the 2006 Firefly Class Craftinsure Vines Travellers Trophy.
With visitor numbers sadly down due to fatigue following the huge 111 boat 60th Firefly Class National Championship held at Abersoch earlier in August, it was sailors from the home club who took the top five places overall.
Paul Kameen and Laura Smith sailing the recently restored Revolution built in the 1950s took the top honours, winning four of the six races. Sadly strong winds put paid to racing on Bank Holiday Monday but at least this gave the competitors time to recover from two big nights out with Sunday’s 60th Anniversary dinner proving the highlight of the weekend for many.
Event sponsors the marine insurance company Craftinsure supplied some ace prizes which were spread througout the fleet.
The final CraftInsure-sponsored Firefly Vines Travellers event will be the special 60th Anniversary Inlands Championship to be held at Rutland Sailing Club on the 11-12 November.
