Armstrong and Bennett set the pace
A total of 22 boats set out for the start of Hollingworth Lake’s GP14 open meeting last weekend (7 July), after a brief delay for a wind to set in. It was to prove fickle when it came, though sunshine also illuminated the scene.
Adam McGovern and Andrew Brook soon set the pace, though challenged by Innes Armstrong and Tom Bennett. Armstrong then showed his form by winning the next two races. Martin Brennan and Alistair Knott overcame the early leader, fellow Club members Mike Butler and Steve Caladine.
The third race was the most openly contested, with Peter Dewhurst and Julie Townson taking an early lead. Andrew and Duncan Greenhalgh, having taken delivery of a new plastic boat the day before, worked their way through to third, ahead of Brennan. Close results followed with two tie breaks in the top five boats.
