GBR Challenge starting helmsman Andy Green picked up US$4,000 for winning the Renaissance Reinsurance Challenge Cup during a lay day at the Colorcraft Gold Cup match racing tournament in Bermuda.
Sponsors Rennaisance Reinsurance provided US$10,000 prize money for the mini-tournament among the seeds and it was GBR Challenge’s Andy Green that scooped the first prize. Green dropped just one race, against Danish amateur Jes-Gram Hansen, posting notice that Green has recovered his 1999 form – the year he won the Colorcraft Gold Cup.
The Colorcraft Gold Cup championship round begins tomorrow morning. The draw revives memories of GBR Challenge’s narrow defeat at the America’s Cup Jubilee regatta as Andy Green goes head-to-head with Prada’s Gavin Brady.
Elsewhere, reigning Swedish Match series champion Magnus Holmberg meets America’s Andy Horton; Dennis Conner meets top qualifier, Bermuda’s Peter Bromby and the promising 21-year-old Briton Mark Campbell-James, formerly World Student Match Racing Champion, meets illbruck Challenge’s Morten Henriksen.
In the second group, former Young America helmsman Ed Baird meets British match racing veteran Chris Law; Jes-Gram Hansen meets fellow Dane Lars Nordjberg; Germany’s Markus Wieser meets Kenny Read and Peter Holmberg meets New Zealand’s Scott Dickson.
