Neil Hegarty from the Royal St George Yacht Club has won the 2003 Allianz ISA Helmsmans’ Championship which took place last weekend. As the Irish National Champion in the Dragon class and the highest scoring Irish entry in the Dragon Europeans it should not come as a huge surprise that he won an event sailed entirely in Dragons. He narrowly beat Ruan O’Tiarnaigh, a previous winner in 1995, coming second in the second flight to Ruan and coming out as the winner in the finals with Ruan finishing second.

Nicholas O’Leary from the Royal Cork Yacht Club was the winner in the Junior Helmsmans’ Championship. The juniors sailed in Firefly dinghies and demonstrated keen skill in the heavy weather. Erica Tait from Kinsale Yacht Club won the Girls Championship.
