The 10th round of the Lark open meeting ladder was hosted by West Kirby SC last weekend
The 10th round of the Lark open meeting ladder was hosted by West Kirby SC
on 25-26 June. Visitors travelled from as far as Brighton, London,
Reading and the east coast.
The open meeting kicked off with three races on Saturday. A strong tide and a
shifty Force 2 meant huge gains and losses could be made. Steve Cumley and
Eluned Jones were first across the finishing line in all three races but were
ruled OCS in the first race which demoted them to 5th overall over night.
The real stars of the day were Kelsey and Gemma Suggitt who posted a 1, 4, 2
to lead as the fleet retired to the bar.
High tide didn1t arrive until 1500 on Sunday so the fleet had plenty of
time to nurse the hangovers. When the water appeared it brought a lovely
Force 3 sea breeze with it, and the battles recommenced. Simon Cox/ Anna
Hotchkiss led the first race of the day from start to finish. Cumley/Jones
ended a close second after overtaking Dan Smith, Helen Winward and father
daughter combo Stuart and Louise Norris.
The event concluded on a real high with a great tactical race. Cumley and
Jones eventually came through to win but only after a four-way scrap with
Cox/Hotchkiss, Mark Ampleford/Lee Nankervis and Smith/Windward.
