There were 11 boats on the water for Laser 2000 three-race series on 29 April at Whitefriars SC in the Cotswolds Water Park.

There were a big percentage of competitors racing for the first time taking advantage of this early event in the Laser 2000 Class Association calendar to prepare for the rest of the year’s competitions.

The weather was clear and sunny with freshening but shifty winds from the east to test both seasoned competitors and beginners alike. From the first gun Tim and Elizabeth Fillmore and Helen and Andrew Phillips the visitors took control of the leading places. Such was the case for the whole race series with, eventually Tim and Elizabeth running out the overall winners with Helen and Andrew second.

There was a hard fought battle for third place between David and Margaret Haines from Bowmoor and the first Whitefriars crew of Pat Green and Brian Davidson. The Haines made it on total points. The result might have been different had not Pat Green abandoned his crew during a crash tack in the first race and attempted to swim part of the course!
