Simonds is best Brit at Laser SB3 Europeans at Lake Garda
Glenn Bourke (Australia) and team won the Laser SB3 European Championship on Lake Garda which concluded on Saturday. In second place was Luc Videau, while third place was taken by a British team headed by Colin Simonds.
Glenn Bourke with his crew Alastair Mcclure and Nigel King took the regatta by 14 points from French Luc Videau. Videau with his crew-mates, the coach of the Olympic Laser Team Pascal Lacoste, Francois Coz and Michael Morison took 44 points.
Good results for the Italian crews, Badalamenti (15th) and Bacci (26th), sailing an SB3 for the first time said: “I could only climb one or two positions, at best but I’m satisfied anyway, this is the first time I race on a Laser SB3 hull. The Garda lake? After four day of good wind we couldn’t wish any better, we know that here it is unusual to stay ashore waiting for the wind.” Badalamenti is very happy too: “These boats don’t have a large diffusion here, but they are better than many others. It is hard to act as a ‘guinea pig’ among all these foreigners.”
The final race on Saturday, saw a couple of general recalls and victory went to Videau, before the Irish Kennedy (10th in the final rankings) and Simonds, then third in general rankings.
