Goodison qualifies in eighth place for gold fleet

The final day of qualifying at the Laser world championship in Bitez took place in 14-20 knots. Three races were scheduled but two took place after there were problems laying a course for the third race in the shifty conditions.

After six races RYA Team GBR sailor Paul Goodison has moved up into eighth place overall after managing to discard his black flag disqualification from the beginning of the regatta.

The seven times Laser world champion Robert Scheidt of Brazil has taken an early lead in the class, he has won four out of the six races sailed and has a six point lead over Michael Blackburn of Australia.

The fleet will now compete in the final series of the championship which concludes on 19 May.
