A total of 13 places out of 21 races gave Ian Martin and Olivier Vidal an emphatic win in Weymouth at the 29er national championship. Although the pair had sewn up the 29er National Championship with three races to spare, they still went out to win the next race with equal commitment.
The final day was once again sailed in sunshine and a building breeze. Race officer Ralph Tingle and his team got the last five races off as planned much as he had done all week. All 21 races scheduled races were sailed with only the occasional postponement.
Runners-up Steve Wilson and John Garth had sailed well enough at the beginning of the championship to keep second overall while Pippa Wilson and Jenny Marks spent the week playing catch up to finish third and take the overall ladies’ prize.
First place in the Silver fleet was taken by Caroline and Eleanor Martin, followed by Tom Dawson and Dan Boatman in second with third going to Ollie Page and Sam Tozer in third. First junior team was Justin Vissar and Phillip White, who took a win in the last race to polish off the week . First master team was Dean Ralph and Simon Jones.
