Husband and wife team, John and Katy Meadowcroft lead the 28-boat National 12 fleet at Salcombe Week
After an excellent 54-boat national championship at Porthpean SC, 28 National 12s made their way to Salcombe for the Yacht Club Regatta (12-17 August).
After three days of close racing the fleet remains tight. Race one on Sunday saw a battle between John and Katy Meadowcroft and John and Mandy Thornton with the Meadowcrofts eventually claiming victory and David Greening settling for third.
Race two on Monday saw three boats battling around the whole course for the top positions. The Jon and Charlotte Ibbotson were just able to sneak away from the Thorntons on the line to secure a win by just two boat lengths. The Meadowcrofts remained in contention with a third.
Race three on Tuesday saw very light winds and strong tides, many of the fleet struggling to get the right side of the line. After a variable and challenging race the Ibbotsons crossed the line first only to discover they were OCS leaving Meadowcroft to take victory and the ever-consistent Thorntons in second.
Halfway through the week John and Katy Meadowcroft in Fools Gold, 3429 remain in top spot. In the difficult conditions of Salcombe Harbour will they be able to hold their nerve?
