17-year-old sailor Mike Perham hits another milestone on his solo voyage around the world
Mike Perham, who is hoping to become the youngest person to sail single-handed around the world, clocked his 20,000th mile this week, as well as hitting his 100th day at sea. He said on his sat phone to his father, Peter: “This mileage give me a great feeling that I am well on my way home and I now only have 10,000 to go.”
Back home, his father Peter has been plotting his position every day. He explained: “Looking at the chart Mike has achieved a huge amount already and looks well set to be home by the end of July.”
The trip was originally envisaged to cover 24,000 miles. However, with all the deviations to stop for repairs and keeping out of bad weather, the trip is expected to cover around 30,000 miles.
