More snowman building than sailing at the he National 12 Midwinter championship on the east coast last weekend
A hardy group of 12 N12 sailors arrived for the Royal Harwich Midwinter Championship last weekend. After some debate as to whether it would be better to have a snowman building competition or brave the blustery wind, snow blizzards and near freezing temperatures, Fran Gifford and Sophie Mackley decided to build a snowman before going sailing.
Only one race was sailed. Tom Stewart and Liz Ross got off to a fantastic start and led throughout. Jon Ibbotson and Charlotte Stewart were never far behind but just never managed to catch Tom Stewart.
Having reached the first mark in third place, Chris Mayhew spectacularly somersaulted out of the back of the boat much to the horror of his crew! Fran Gifford and Sophie Mackley took third place for a few legs, but Chris Mayhew and Helen Hunt managed to get ahead on the last beat to finish in third. Richard Williams and Stella Brown got stuck in the mud before the start and had to capsize the boat. They caught up considerably and finished in fifth. Jerry and Simon Garner in the only Admirals cup boat were slightly left behind but sailed a really good race.
Overall Results
1 Tom Stewart and Elisabeth Ross
