The 12th Swan Cup will be held from September 8 to 15 next year, hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo, Sardinia.
The Swan Cup is staged every other year and the 2000 regatta was the most successful of its 11 year history, with a packed entry list of 100 Swans and a guest list ranging from Claudia Schiffer to Paul Cayard. It is the hallmarks of this event that ensure its world-wide reputation.
2002 will build on this established reputation and provide not only a highly competitive sporting event but also nurture the unique relationship Nautor has with all Swan owners from around the World.
Enrico Chieffi, Nautor Group Marketing Director, remarked on the significance of the event and looks forward to 2002; “The Swan Cup is Nautor’ Swan’s single most important event, not only because it brings the largest gathering of Swans from around the world to one place for a competitive regatta but also stands Nautor apart from other builders by reinforcing the relationship with our owners.” He continued; “The Swan Cup 2002 will prove to be bigger and better than last year with an expected increase in attendance. We are being hosted again by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, who never waiver in their professionalism and support for the regatta, providing the perfect backdrop to what can only be described as the most stylish of sailing events!”
Gianfranco Alberini, Commodore of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda commented, “The Swan Cup is one of the most glamorous events that we host at the Yacht Club. It is always a pleasure to welcome the Swan owners and crew to our Yacht Club and to organise the Swan fleet racing in the stunning waters off Costa Smeralda.”
The regatta will have five days of racing with one lay day, the courses varying from island races to windward – leewards. The Swans will be graded into four classes, with results for each class and overall. Last year’s overall winner was Theo and Martin Kingsbergen’s Swan 68 BCI, Defiance, with Arien Van Vemde’s Swan 60 NED, Sotto Voce and Richard Loftus’ Swan 65 GBR, Desperado taking 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
The Pre- Notice of Race will be in the next edition of the ClubSwan Magazine, to be mailed at the end of September and the Notice of Race will be available in January 2002.
