Lack of wind forces postponement of opening day's racing at the Garmin Hamble River Winter Series on Sunday
After the splendid day’s racing that the Hamble Big Boat Series had enjoyed on Saturday it was particularly disappointing for the large number of competitors and the race officers of the main Garmin Hamble Winter Series when the weather over the mid-Solent area failed to produce sufficient consistent breeze to enable any racing to take place on the opening day.
Race Director Jamie Wilkinson held the Black fleet in the central Solent for as long as possible but the forecast wind did not arrive. White fleet PRO Jonty Sherwill held the Sportsboats out for another 30 minutes in the hope that being nearer to the entrance of Southampton Water might induce a little more wind but to no avail and so it was back to the clubhouse for an early lunch.
Next weekend has racing on both days and incorporates the Autumn Championships for one-design classes as well as the normal winter series racing on Sunday.
