It was another day of light airs and high temperatures at the Saronic Gulf Regatta in Greece
It was another day of light airs and high temperatures at the Saronic Gulf Regatta in Greece. Due to the fact that the previous day’s race was discounted, three races were sailed, in breezes ranging from 6-12 knots.
Dufresne/ Azon of Spain, continued their dominance over the Women’s 470 fleet, they racked up another good set of scores that extended their lead to 17 points over the Australian pair, Armstrong/Stowell. Gibson/Clark also put in a good performance, recording a third in the second race, which pushed them up into third place overall.
In the men’s 470 fleet, Kosmatopoulos/Trigonis, proved that they were well suited to the conditions, and managed to stretch out their lead to 14 points over their team mates Takis/Polychronidis. A good day for British pair Graham Vials and Dan Newman who put in a strong performance resulting in them moving up to seventh place overall.
Min Dizillie of Belgium proved that she was a force to be reckoned with in the Europe fleet, increasing her lead to 17 points from Sarah Blanck of Australia. Sarah Ayton is lying 7th overall, just in front of team mate Debbie Winstanley, who saw her overall position fall due to ‘jumping the gun’ on the start line and therefore recorded over the line at the start, which carries maximum penalty points, she is now in ninth position.
Places haven’t changed in the Finn class, Papathanassiou has continued to show his dominance over the fleet, and increased his lead. His team mate Karnoutsos is second and Britain’s Andrew Simpson is third.
