The Open Winter series at Wilsonian SC from 2 November to 14 December attracted 36 entries, including four visitors, with choice of long or short course.
Strong winds plagued the beginning and end of the series with light airs in-between; two races were abandoned due to a lack of wind. Chris Ashby (RS 400) with assistance from Mike Smith and David Bourne comfortably won the long course event with 14 points from the six races to count. It was a close tussle for second place between John Shenton/Tim Kift/Paul Heather (Osprey) and Colin/Lauren/Adam Treadwell (RS 400).
In the final race Kift/Heather managed the blustery conditions well to finish third and this secured the second prize, as the Treadwells failed to finish and had to settle for third overall. Visitors Mark Lee and Emily Stanbrook (Scorpion) left it to the last race for a fine second place to lift them to fourth on aggregate pushing Grahame Smith/Ian Parris (Boss) into fifth place.
The short course event was easily won by the Wayfarer team of Brian Lamb/Bobbie Burnell/Brian Warwick/Jane Drummond, with three firsts, a couple of seconds and a third. Andrew Smith, helming his Laser Radial in all the races, claimed runners-up spot with 17 points, while Peter and Gordon Belcher shared the helming of their Laser for the third prize. Brian Reeve/Tony Hunt (Comet Race) and Peter Horner/David Brooker (Miracle) were fourth and fifth prize winners respectively
