Attempts to unstep the broken mast of Bruno Peyron’s maxi-catamaran Orange have been thwarted by high winds today.
The Jules Verne Trophy challenger arrived at the Multiplast yard in Vannes this morning but the operation to remove the mast has now been postponed until tomorrow (Saturday 16 February).
Co-designer Yann Penfornis and workshop manager Philippe Cahue believe that the mast is repairable. Once in the workshop it will be subjected to non-destructive ultrasonic analysis in order to test the rest of the structure before the two parts are rejoined, most likely by laminating with layers of carbon.
