The Ian Bruce-designed Byte dinghy has a new builder. Ovington Boats, based in the north east, has taken over the building of this popular 12ft singlehanded one-design and the first boat should be on the water soon. Boats will be supplied to the UK and Northern Europe.

Canadian designer Ian Bruce who also designed the Laser was present at the Tanners Bank yard in Newcastle when production started.

Commenting on the recent build news Dave Hall – sales director said he is looking forward to seeing the first boats on the water and getting in one himself since he is the right size! “It looks like a good autumn programme should bring a few boats out as well as our new ones, a late nationals this year combined with the worlds next year in Weymouth should give the class the kick start it needed in the UK and keep the momentum going internationally.”
