The Peter Milne Memorial Open Regatta will take place on Sunday 26 April at Hayling Island Sailing Club. Following the death last year of Fireball designer Peter Milne this event has been dedicated to him.

“Peter Milne was a remarkable man who achieved much in the world of sailing – as a designer and latterly as technical journalist,” explained fireball sailor Steve Chesney. “However he will always be remembered principally for the design of the Fireball.”

“The Fireball ranks amongst the great pieces of design from [the 1960s]. Like the Mini and the Porsche the Fireball has never been bettered, tweaked here and there, but the original concept has stood the test of time.”

“I’ve been sailing these fantastic little boats for 20 odd years. I’ve had more fun from them and the people who sail them than anybody has a right to expect. So come down to Hayling, pay your respects to the man who started it all and have a great party as well.”
