With a flat calm at the start of the day’s racing at Skandia Life Cowes Week, it was fairly certain that there wouldn’t be too much excitement out on the race course today. In IRC Class 7, Martyn and Magnus Wheatley’s International H Boat, Cloud Nine, scored another win to add to Saturday’s success. They are now neck and neck in the points scoring with Pink Lime, sailed by Nick Houlding, who is also notching up some consistent results, having scored a third on Saturday, a second yesterday and and another second today.
One of the biggest surprises was the overall win in Class 10 Bowsprit for Stephen Fein’s Full Pelt, which managed to get away at the start leaving the rest of the fleet in her wake. It was only yesterday that helmsman Jo Richards, pointed out that it would be virtually impossible to take a class win with Full Pelt’s sort of rating in light winds. Not surprisingly, the crew are currently celebrating in the beer tent! In second place was the J/92 Forza sailed by Jack and Joan Hardie who managed to hold off Roger Mavity’s Big Wednesday.
The crew of Jack Kelly’s Moonshine had their spirits lifted today with a win in the Mumm 30 fleet. They sailed a superb race taking their first race win and managing to hold off Greg Logan’s Highlander III which had to settle for second.
In IRC Class 5 the Adams 10 Great Scott II was the star of the class, scooping first place from Ian Maclean’s Software Mistress.
