Kite surfer Chris Bell to circumnavigate the Isle of Wight for RNLI 9/3/08
Kite surfing pioneer and Fat Face Team rider, Chris Bull, is hoping for favourable conditions in the next fortnight before he attempts to circumnavigate the Isle Of Wight with just his kite and board.
Chris very nearly made it round the island, a distance of over 50NM or 95km, back in 2004. However, a sudden shift in wind hindered his attempt and he was forced to pull out with less than 10km to go. As yet, no one has accomplished the feat, so if Chris is successful, he will make it into the Guinness Book of Records.
“Its well over 90km?and it’s going to be very difficult to achieve,” explained Chris, “due to lots of varying conditions: wind speed; wind quality; tide; currents and navigating around the island; plus the physical endurance of kite surfing for over six hours.”
As well as hoping to sail into the record books, Chris is also using the challenge to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
