VOR yacht Team News Corp has broken the speed record Silk Cut set in the last round the world yacht race four years ago. She has achieved the average speed of 18.754 knots which is 0.93 miles or 0.03 knots faster. Both times the yachts were skippered by Englishmen, Lawrie Smith last time and Jez Fanstone this time. Jez was on board Silk Cut when establishing the old record.

Even though achieving six miles less over 24 hours, djuice is still holding the lead. Both yachts have put a 40-mile plus cushion, on the closest chasing yacht Assa Abloy, which is about two hours sailing time right now. Second fasted in the same period was illbruck, just three miles short of News Corp’s record. Illbruck increases her distance on Amer Sports One and attempts to get hold of SEB and overtake her. Amer Sports Too trails the leading yachts by 242 miles, which is less than a day’s sailing in these conditions.

Tyco is expected to arrive in Port Elisabeth this evening.
