The annual X-Yachts Gold Cup regatta kicks off today with 125 yachts competing in Copenhagen
The 11th edition of the X-Yachts Gold Cup begins today in their homeland of Denmark and is already making for some intriguing stats. With 125 yachts registered from 19 different countries and over 1400 crew expected, this will be the largest contingent thus far – also making it the largest keelboat regatta ever held in Denmark.
Partnered by BMW, this is the fourth time the Gold Cup has taken place in Scandanavia, but only the first time in Copenhagen, with the race centre placed in the excellent new facilities of the Royal Danish Yacht Club in Tuborg Harbour, 10km north of the city.
Perhaps the most impressive showing will be from the fleet of 33 new X41’s (pictured) that have gathered. Having only launched last year, over half of those sold have gathered here from 16 nations to compete in their own class. With such a large turnout in such a short time, X-Yachts are expecting the 41 will become an ISAF recognised class by next month.
Conditions are looking perfect with moderate winds all week blowing over flat water.
