Stage five of the Audi Medcup sees two of the most exciting coastal races on the Circuit
From what was undoubtedly one of the most challenging and exciting coastal races of the last couple of years on the MedCup Circuit it was the consistency of Mutua Madrilena, which saw it top the overall leader board of the Region of Murcia Trophy Regatta.
Yesterday’s coastal races produced an epic finale over the final two miles – in shifty breezes – when a three-way battle to the line in Race Two was won by Matador (ARG), holding off the crew of Platoon (GER), and Mutua Madrilena (SPA) – who finished third.
Adding that result to Mutua Madrilena’s first place in Race One, the Spaniards now lead Matador by three points going in to the penultimate day of racing.
For Audi MedCup Circuit leaders Quantum Racing (USA) it was a day to consider their weaknesses. There was nothing easy or straightforward in the split breeze which favoured both sides of the course at different times, but in the middle stages Terry Hutchinson and team dropped three places after leading the race at the mark immediately before the scoring gate and then they slid back to sixth by the finish.
One of the great performances of the day was that of Matador. Third and first today leaves them second overall and on target for their second consecutive podium finish.
