Franck Cammas is almost across the finish line, whilst Francis Joyon (on IDEC) moves up to second place
With Franck Cammas looking like now being one tack from home and victory, making 15-18 knots with around 55 miles to sail to the finish line to bring Groupama 3 to victory, Thomas Coville (Sodebo) has just lost his second place on the rankings to rival Francis Joyon (Idec).
Joyon’s direct approach from the NWW has seen him reaching in with better speed and a lay-line for the top NW corner of Basse Terre, Guadeloupe. Crossing the course of Sodebo this morning now sees Idec second by a margin of 39 miles, making a VMG of 17 knots compared with Sodebo’s net VMG, sailing upwind, of just over 2 knots.
