David Acrey wins final RS600 event of the season 27/9/06
Hayling bay produced some of the best conditions seen all season for the final event in this year’s Fat Face RS600 circuit with two days of brilliant blue skies and consistent Force 4 south easterlies last weekend.
In races 1 and 2 local David Acrey showed the circuit regulars the way round the large trapezoidal course to claim two bullets. Behind places changed regularly as boat handling errors in the steep chop proved costly.
Race 3 saw the breeze build slightly to provide some challenging racing. Richard Mayo revelled in the stronger breeze, chased hard by Mark Duckworth and David Annan. Behind, the run resembled a graveyard with many spectacular capsizes.
Sunday morning saw some sore heads, these were soon forgotten as the wind filled in right on cue. Steve Reeves showed great height and speed up the beat to claim his first win in race 4, followed by a consistent Mayo. Acrey took his third win of the weekend in race 5 with a well deserved second going to Tony Mitchell.
The final race saw a shortening of course to two laps as the wind dropped suddenly to marginal trapezing. Reeves claimed his second win in a close finish with Annan in second.
