Innovation Explorer is trying to tackle Club Med’s lead, but hasn’t got the headsails to run as efficiently downwind as her sistership
The gap between Grant Dalton’s Club Med and Loïck Peyron’s Innovation Explorer was 650nm early this morning, but a 515nm run in 24-hours shows that Dalton is still prepared to push as necessary, despite his recent note of caution. Peyron’s track also shows that he is needing to work harder downwind due to a less suitable set of headsails.
Meantime, Team Adventure has hit lighter winds than expected and is unlikely to draw into Cape Town until the early hours of Monday. Full medical and repair facilities are on standby for the two injured crew and their wounded ship.
As frustrating as it must be to have pulled out, perhaps the only calm ship on The Race at the moment is Play Station, still being logged by the results engine even though she is now lying in Antigua.
