Day 1 - 505 Pre-Worlds/Australian Championships in Adelaide 23/1/07
Perfect sailing conditions greeted some of the world’s best sailors for Day 1 of the 505 Pre Worlds in Adelaide.
Two races were held with US boats winning both races, though with Sweden, Germany, Great Britain Denmark and Australia filling the remaining places in race 1, it was no domination. Competition was fierce with many lead changes and the both races. Race 1 was won by Howie Hamlin and Fritz Lanzinger
In the second there was a great battle all race, with former world champion Mike Martin and Jeff Nelson, against local boat Commonwealth Bank sailed by Robbie Duessen and Jordan Spencer, but in the end, a late charge from Doug Hagan and Michael Duffield, saw them take the win.
In the Australian Championship, the provisional results show Robbie and Jordan in the lead from Michael Quirk and Geoff Lange of NSW, Nigel Lott and Bob Franks of QLD, and Sandy Higgins and Paul Marsh from SA. However, the points are very close and there is plenty of sailing to come.
