John Mursell and Nick Keast won the Scorpion open meeting at Sidmouth Sailing Club on 15-16 September
Sidmouth Sailing Club hosted its first Scorpion open in a number of year’s this weekend (15-16 September). A total of eight visitors joined the home fleet of six boats and enjoyed a hard weekend’s sailing.
The north-westerly breeze creating calmer seas. However, the breeze, a shifty Force 6 at times. This proved too much for some and seven boats retired by the end of race two.
On Sunday the wind remained at Force 3-4. The clear winners were John Mursell and Nick Keast who made the windward mark first in each race, the other places were wrestled for, Peter Rose and son John, Harry Harper and Liz Mower, Pete Smith and Pru Grant, Andy Hayman and Daughter Fran and Ian Harrison and Mike Hannan, close together making an exciting and hard fought race. In the end Peter and John Rose came second with Peter Harper and Liz Mower third. A special mention for juniors Steve Hacket and David Johnson coming seventh overall, sailing Scorpions only since July and completing all races.
