American trimaran Alacrity finish in 1st place for leg 4 of the SRBI race to Lowestoft 27/6/06
Leading boat Alacrity were the first to complete leg four from Lerwick to Lowestoft of the Shetland Round Britain and Ireland race yesterday morning, entering the Lowestoft marina on England’s east coast in light conditions.
Americans Rex Conn and Etienne Giroire onboard the Newick Traveller trimaran, Alacrity, was followed by the Netherlands Open 40 La Promesse, the Belgians on Immo B.I.B, another Dutch competitor Roaring Again and finally British competitors Nigel Passmore and Angus McPhie onboard their Bailey trimaran Waverider in fifth position, all within a space of three hours of each other.
Sightings of dolphins and oil rigs along the way made for an interesting run, as the boats grappled with the variable conditions swinging from calm to 30 knots plus – causing La Promesse to blow out a spinnaker.
Pete Goss and Paul Larsen sit in 12th position onboard their Seacart 30 Cornwall Playing for Success, after poor weather conditions and boat repairs delayed their start. See news story here
