Around the Horn and heading to the finish Guy Swindells talks to crews as they approach the end of the longest leg of the Volvo Ocean Race
The longest leg of the Volvo Ocean Race is drawing to a close as the fleet heads up the coast of Brazil to the finish in Rio.
Having started slowly from China, teams found themselves playing catch up and wondering whether they had sufficient food and fuel for a leg that was looking like being significantly longer than predicted.
Conditions have also taken their toll on the crew, especially the cold, gale force conditions that greeted them on their run into to the most notorious headland of the race, Cape Horn.
In this week’s podcast we hear from current leg leader and king of the big gamble, Ericsson 3’s skipper Magnus Olsson, from race leading skipper Torben Grael, Telefonica Blue’s navigator Simon Fisher with on shore analysis from race expert Mark Chisnell.
