The fourth edition of this racing festival is a packed programme of talks by leading solo skippers

As the sport of solo sailing grows internationally, the Solo Racing Festival grows too and this year moves to a bigger venue at the Solent University Conference Centre, Southampton.

The fourth edition of the Festival will take place on Saturday 6 March with a packed program of talks by leading solo skippers. It is a unique event, bringing together all disciplines of singlehanded racing – from the Mini Transat to circumnavigators of class 40s and IMOCA 60s.

There will be plenty of scope for networking and catching up at the event, which starts with coffee at registration, and includes a hot buffet lunch and afternoon tea. All of which is included in the ticket.

There will be reports from skippers in the 2009 Mini Transat and the 2009 single-handed Trans Atlantic race. Plus organisers will look back at the first Portimao Global Ocean Race, and forward to its second edition in 2011.

2010 also marks the start of two classic ocean races – the Route Du Rhum and the Velux 5 Oceans. The Solo Racing Festival plans to have significant input from both races.

Mike Broughton of WinningWinds.com will start the day with a session on advanced weather routing. Solo ocean racers Dee Caffari and Brian Thompson are both headline speakers. Doors will open at 10am, with the first talk at 11am.
