Swiss Dominique Wavre sailing Union Bancaire Privée in the Vendee Globe has broken Yves Parlier's recently set solo 24 hour record
At an average speed of 18 knots Swiss Vendee Globe entrant Dominique Wavre covered a distance of 432 miles in 24 hours as the fleet are starting to go deep into the Southern Ocean. The position has been confirmed by his ARGOS transmitter posiitions.
The record, previously held by Marc Thiercelin at 396.5 miles, was first broken by Yves Parlier five days ago by more than 20 miles. Wavre’s boat Union Banque Privée, is not reckoned to be one of the fastest new generation Open 60s so it seems highly possible that this record will be broken again.
