A total of 19 competitors turned out for Sunday's Splash open meeting at Norfolk Broads Yacht Club
The UK Splash class association hosted a travellers open meeting at Norfolk Broads Yacht Club Wroxham on Sunday 3 April 2005.
The first meeting of the year attracted an entry of 19 boats, several families being absent in Scotland attending other events with junior members.
The weather was classic Norfolk weather, with a light southerly breeze increasing during the day from Force 2 to gusts of Force 5 for the last race.
In the first race Adam Barker rounded the first mark just ahead of Andy Jarvis with Pippa Girling close behind. The long run down the Broad saw positions changing with Andy taking the lead which he held to the finish with Tom Barker in second followed by Nathan Ackroyd.
The wind had freshened considerably for the second race, making conditions difficult for the youngsters who had only just come up the Splash class from Optimists and Toppers.
At the lee mark on the first leg all the boats had bunched together during the run, young Ian Richardson suffering the most, and there was serious pandemonium as boats rounded three and four abreast. By the end of the race Pippa Girling had pulled out a significant lead from Simon Barker with Andy Jarvis in third.
The wind was a steady Force 4 for the last race and Bradley Field led to the first mark in followed by Pippa Girling and Simon Barker. Bradley capsized on the run letting Pippa through to establish an unassailable lead from Tom Barker and Nathan Ackroyd
